Accessibility
WAI
Most pages within the Book Festival website comply with the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Level 1 and 2 Guidelines and some to Level 3. To support blind users and keyboard users all pages have a 'skip to content' at the top of the page which allows blind users to skip over the navigation links to the main content of the page.
The 'What's On' and 'Buy Online' links will open a new browser window to access our online booking system. If using a screen reader the simplest option to find out what is on is to ask for a copy of the brochure in large print, braille or audio cd. Please call the Book Festival to request a copy on 0131 718 5666.
Telephone bookings can then be made on local rate 0845 373 5888.
Use of text
Navigation, page titles and subtitles, links and other elements have all been created using accessible html text.
Text Size
To allow full user control over how text appears on screen, this site has been created using relative text sizes.
Colour
No information is conveyed through colour alone. Links are black in colour throughout the main page content, and are identified with an underline. The main menu items are not underlined and are white in colour and while colour is used to help identify which section of the site the user is in, the menus are structurally created to work with screenreaders.
Alt text
All content images include descriptive ALT text attributes (a tag that provides alternative text for the visually impaired).
