Education

Education lies at the heart of everything we do. We aim to provide an enriching and memorable love of reading and writing, to inspire new audiences and to encourage the exploration of new ideas. The huge variety of events we offer provides people of all backgrounds the opportunity to learn and develop. Please take a look at our education policy to gain an overall view of our objectives.

Our extremely popular RBS Schools Programme runs during August, when we welcome over 10,000 pupils and teachers from over 100 schools across Scotland. In tandem with events for pupils of all ages, we also programme CPD events for teachers and other education professionals led by some of the top players in the world of education. Of course our public programme is educational too. With inspirational writing workshops and masterclasses and a diverse range of debates in our adult programme, there's plenty to prod those little grey cells into action! Our renowned children's programme explores diverse cultures, the natural world, science and history, and encouraging children to play with words remains at the top of our agenda.

Because the Book Festival is for everyone, we work in partnership with expert organisations to develop new audiences, encouraging new groups to visit the festival. We also understand that for various reasons, including financial and geographical restrictions, not everyone can make it to Charlotte Square Gardens during the festival, so we organise Outreach events for groups at schools, libraries, young offenders' institutions and care homes.
