How to book
Booking for the RBS Schools Programme will open in April 2012. Full details of when and how to book will be announced in early 2012.
Ticket prices
£3 each for pupils and adults (one adult free with every 10 pupils)
£7 (£5 concessions) each for CPD events
Your visit
If you are attending the RBS Schools Programme this year you will be emailed a welcome pack with maps and information about your visit to Edinburgh. These details will also be available to download from the website. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your first event, events start promptly and we have a strict no latecomer's policy. Edinburgh is very busy during August so please schedule in extra travel time to allow for traffic congestion.
RBS Children's Bookshop
We have a large bookshop at the Book Festival dedicated to children which features over 3,000 titles showcasing the quality and variety in children's publishing today. From classic picture books for budding readers through to contemporary teen fiction, our welcoming environment, complete with Activity and Reading Corners, will delight pupils young and old. Every penny of profit from our independent book sales operation goes straight back towards the maintenance and development of the Book Festival.
25% off books
Your pupils will get so much more from their Book Festival experience if they are able to read the relevant books beforehand. We can supply books (minimum order 5 copies of the same book) in advance of your trip at 25% discount. Postage and packing is free. This discount is only available for pre-festival multi-copy orders. Once you have booked, you will be emailed book order forms in June.
You can order any book titles mentioned in the RBS Schools Brochure, as well as any other children's book which is in print.
Eating and drinking
Come for the whole day and have a lunchtime break between events. There is space on the grass for a picnic, either bring your own packed lunches or buy sandwiches, drinks and snacks from our onsite cafes.
Please note that we cannot guarantee there will be a covered area available to eat your lunch in bad weather, except on RBS Schools Gala Day.
RBS Transport Fund
If you need financial support to transport your class to the Book Festival - whether it's a coach from Inverness or even an Edinburgh city bus fare - please apply for our RBS Transport Fund. First get an estimate of the cost of bringing your pupils to Charlotte Square for each trip. Then, on your booking form, fill in the estimated cost and relevant details. Allocation of funding is based on economic need and geographical distance. You will be notified if your application is successful (either totally or partially). You must invoice us for reimbursement of your RBS Transport Fund allocation.
Special assistance and support services
The Book Festival's RBS Schools Programme is open to all students. Our venues are wheelchair accessible and have infra-red audio loops for students with hearing difficulties. We can also supply a British Sign Language interpreter upon prior request. Should any of your pupils require extra services or if you need more information to plan your visit, please email schools@edbookfest.co.uk.
