Entry to the Edinburgh International Book Festival at Charlotte Square Gardens is free for everyone. There is plenty of fun stuff for children to do - for all ages. And there is a lot that is free. The Book Festival's unique family-friendly space is a great place to spend a day or two.
RBS Children’s Bookshop
Our independently run RBS Children's Bookshop is an Aladdin’s cave of books with literally thousands of titles to choose from.
Activity Corner
We've got FREE hands-on activities for children aged up to eleven in our fun Activity Corner.
Events for babies and under 3s
Enjoyable and engaging (and FREE) half hour sessions of songs and rhymes for babies and children under 3 years, led by Bookstart Edinburgh and Craigmillar Books for Babies, form part of the programme.
Daily storytellers for adults and children
FREE storytelling with some of today's most inspirational national and international storytellers take place twice EVERY DAY.
Teenagers
There are many events for teenagers (including older teens) in the programme including creative workshops, debates and hot teen author events.
Food & drink
Bring your own picnic to enjoy on the grass or buy tasty snacks and drinks from our on-site cafés. And don’t forget there’s plenty of ice cream – enjoyable no matter what the weather!
Buggy/pushchair park
The FREE Bookstart Buggy Park may not exactly be fun but it is certainly very useful. We have one on site at the Book Festival to help you enjoy your visit a little more.
