Simon Singh and libel reform

Science writer and broadcaster Simon Singh, who was last at the Book Festival in 2008, is currently being sued for libel by the British Chiropractic Association. They objected to an article he wrote for the Guardian two years ago in which he raised concerns about chiropractors who use spinal manipulation to treat children for conditions such as colic, ear infections and asthma.
Sense About Science, PEN & Index on Censorship have launched a campaign asking for reform of the English libel system so that it does not stifle scientific debate and journalism in general. To find out more about the campaign and sign the statement of support visit the Libel Reform website.
