George
Makana Clark ...
Raised in Rhodesia, George Makana Clark currently teaches Fiction Writing and African Literature at the University of Wisconsin. His stories have been published in The O. Henry Prize Stories, Tin House, Zoetrope: All-Story, Glimmer Train, and Transition Magazine, and he was shortlisted for the 2003 Caine Prize for African Writing. His first novel, The Raw Man, takes us through the scarred landscapes of Southern Africa: a fractured region contending with its own history and a terrible present reality. The harrowed narrator retells the blood stories of his encounters in order to uncover the secrets of his own ancestry; this is a work of stark and breathtaking capacity.
