Alex Wheatle’s biopic was featured as part of Steve McQueen’s seminal 2020 series, Small Axe. This evening, the author and playwright joins us to discuss Sufferah, his new coming-of-age memoir that demonstrates how Wheatle found strength, hope, and salvation within the rise of reggae music while attempting to navigate a 1980s British care and judicial system plagued by systemic racism. Chaired by Lisa Williams.
