Close Read with Eileen Myles

Poet, performer and activist Eileen Myles is inextricably linked to New York City but join them today as they explore the world of 17th century England in Victor Hugo’s novel, The Man Who Laughs. Like much of Hugo’s work, this story is preoccupied with violence and hypocrisy in the aristocracy, and the lonely figures who can be both victims and heroes. This 90-minute workshop will be enjoyable for those with existing knowledge of The Man Who Laughs and for those new to Hugo’s work.
