Fatima Daas & Shumona Sinha: Immigrants in Paris

20 percent of Paris’s population are immigrants but they are often relegated to the margins of the city. The outsider experience is central to two prize-winning autobiographical novels by Fatima Daas and Shumona Sinha. In her rhapsodic debut, The Last One, Daas tries to find herself amid the contradictions of being French-Algerian, Muslim and gay. A new translation of Sinha’s critically acclaimed Down with the Poor! shares her experiences with the French immigration authorities.
