Gerard Carruthers, Alan Riach & Sara Sheridan: Do We Need A New Canon?

From Robert Louis Stevenson to Jackie Kay, Scotland has long been a beacon for great writing. Gerard Carruthers and Alan Riach, two of the country’s best-respected literature scholars, are joined today by writer and activist Sara Sheridan, bestselling author of The Fair Botanists, to discuss some of the nation’s greatest figures and their most influential texts – and who is missing from what we consider to be ‘canon’. Carruthers will be drawing on Scottish Stories, a new collection he edited, while Riach focuses on the influence of Hugh MacDiarmid as well as his new book Scottish Literature: An Introduction.
