Writer, prospector for gold, socialist: Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham was one of a kind. Elected to Parliament in 1886 as a Liberal MP, he pursued a radical agenda, condemning child labour and capital punishment – and later co-founded the Scottish Labour Party with Keir Hardie. Upon failing to get elected in 1892, he went unsuccessfully in search of gold in Spain. Now, R B Cunninghame Graham’s great-great-nephew James Jauncey tells the story of the remarkable Don Roberto in conversation with Ruth Wishart.
