In an English boarding school, girls kiss a marble statue of the famous dead author who walked the halls. K Patrick’s revelatory debut, Mrs S, unfolds during a heatwave when the arrival of a young, Australian ‘matron’ pierces the claustrophobic world of academia and privilege. As she embarks on a relationship with the headmaster’s wife, boundaries are tested and the constrained world of order is pushed to breaking point. In conversation with Harry Josephine Giles.
