Pain and transformation are at the centre of the two exhilarating novels discussed in today's event. Kathryn Scanlan's Kick the Latch follows the hard daily rhythms of horse trainer Sonia, while Michael Winkler's Grimmish focuses on legendarily tough boxer Joe Grim. How fiction can represent truth is taken to rigorous task in these novels which play with and test conventional form, with mesmerising results. Chaired by Dan Richards.
