ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND EVENT
Tales of Two Planets: Making Climate Change Personal
Thu 20 Aug 14:30 - 15:30
The New York Times Main Theatre Online
The world is on notice. For so long we have been warned - and in turn, told our politicians - that we are running out of time. In January 2020, Booker Prize-winning writer Richard Flanagan said that Australia was ‘committing climate suicide’ as horrifying fire tornadoes burnt through more than 20% of the country’s forest.
These disasters may be ‘unprecedented’ in their scale, but they are happening more often. We regularly hear of the economic impact of climate change, but what is often missed are the personal stories, dispatches about how the global environmental crisis is affecting our communities. In his new anthology Tales of Two Planets, writer and editor John Freeman brings together writers to tell us their personal stories of climate change and action around the world. Joining Freeman is Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat, Aotearoa poet Tayi Tibble and British-Malaysian photographer Ian Teh to share their stories.
This is a pre-recorded event. It will not be available to watch on demand after the scheduled broadcast.
