All events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival take place in venues situated in the tented Book Festival village in Charlotte Square Gardens and along the west end of George Street, just off the west end of Princes Street – use postcode EH2 4DR. Entry to the Gardens is free.
Everything is in easy reach – Princes Street is a two minute walk away, Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, Waverley and Haymarket train stations, Edinburgh bus station and many more key locations are within close walking distance. You can catch a bus or tram direct from Edinburgh Airport to Princes Street.
Parking in the city
As a member of the Green Arts Initiative, we encourage the use of public transport wherever possible to reduce the environmental impact of the Book Festival. Edinburgh is also very busy during August and parking spaces are limited.
If you do need to come by car, there is a multi-storey car park in Castle Terrace, about a ten minute walk away from the Book Festival Village. There are also some metered parking spaces around Charlotte Square. You can pull in just outside or opposite the Entrance Tent of the Book Festival on Charlotte Street to drop off wheelchair users. There is level access across the pedestrian crossing between the end of George Street and the gates of Charlotte Square Gardens and a shallow ramp up into the entrance tent. There is level access around the whole of the Book Festival site.
The Official Edinburgh Festivals Map
When you are in Edinburgh, look out for the official festivals map – it details all festival locations and venues and is a useful guide to help you get around all the festivals in August. Available free from the Book Festival Entrance Tent and many other locations around the city.
