During the Festival, we work with the Scottish Prison Service, creating bespoke sessions with authors to suit the needs of each group. Recent authors that have led our prison sessions include poets Michael Mullen and Najwan Darwish, and novelists Melissa Lucashenko and Andrew O’Hagan. The sessions provide meaningful interactions between people in custody and authors, that inspire creativity and help to develop empathy.

“Many, many thanks for supporting Margaret McDonald and Jenni Fagan to visit the book groups at HMP Shotts and the Lilias Centre – it was the highlight of our year!  The men really enjoyed speaking with Margaret about Glasgow Boys and her writing process.”
