Julian Cope

Visionary musician, antiquarian and musicologist Julian Cope turns his hand to fiction with his debut novel, One Three One.

Described by Cope as a ‘time-shifting gnostic hooligan road novel,’ One Three One is a melting pot of genres and ideas that takes readers on a rip-roaring ride along Sardinia’s 131 Highway. Determined to find out the truth about his kidnapping on the island years before, time traveller and 80s musical burnout Rock Section returns to Sardinia to settle some scores and track down Dutch cult leader Judge Barry Hertzhog, who he believes holds the answers he is looking for. However, as his chaotic road trip unfolds Rock discovers hidden ancient doorways strewn along the highway, behind which lie shocking truths that he could never have imagined.
