We know that educators, librarians, and community group leaders are making enormous efforts to tackle the literacy crisis on its front line, and our year-round communities programme - informed by your experience and expert knowledge of your members and communities - aim to support your incredible efforts.

During August, our exciting Schools programme offers dozens of events for teachers and pupils, right from P1 to S6, and everything in between. Our transport fund can support your visits from across the country, and we reserve free tickets for students who might otherwise be able to attend. And all students get to take home a free book to further their Festival adventure beyond their in-person visit! Many of our events are available to stream directly to classrooms too, with plenty of free learning resources to help lesson planning and creative learning.

Throughout the year we connect authors to schools, hospitals, care homes, alternative education organisations, libraries, and a range of other locations, to ensure that those unable to attend the Festival in person still get to experience the power of words, and tell their own important – and often under-represented – stories.

We ensure that age, location, and income are not barriers to attending Festival events with a large free and Pay What You Can events programme, lower priced tickets for those on income support, and a significant online events programme, including free streaming events in libraries across Scotland.

"Thanks so much for these opportunities to get out and see these amazing book events, it has been life changing."
