Eimear McBride (Women's Prize­winning author of A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing and The Lesser Bohemians) often dwells in dark, confronting subject matter, yet her writing style is infused with playfulness. Nouns become verbs, sentences fragment, time jumps around.
