Olesya Khromeychuk & Jen Stout: Remembering Victoria Amelina
Victoria Amelina was a Ukrainian novelist, literary festival curator, and, following Russia’s invasion, a war crimes investigator. Halfway through writing her nonfiction account of the war, Amelina was wounded in a Russian missile attack – days later, she died of her injuries. In the aftermath, writers and friends came together to edit and assemble her manuscript, Looking at Women Looking at War. At the end of last year, Amelina was posthumously awarded a 2024 IPA Prix Voltaire Special Award, and the book won the 2025 Orwell Prize for Political Writing. Today, in conversation with Roxani Krystalli, Olesya Khromeychuk and Jen Stout pay moving tribute to Amelina’s extraordinary life and legacy.
