The International Booker Prize is the annual award for the best work of fiction translated into English. Known for its sparkling longlists, the prize brings international attention to both the authors’ and translators’ work. With the prize shared equally between author and translator, it is the most influential award for translated fiction. Join 2025 judge Sana Goyal and the International Booker Prize’s administrator Fiammetta Rocco as they speak to the winners of this year’s prize, Banu Mushtaq and Deepa Bhasthi, about their work and the art of translation.
Author, Banu Mushtaq and translator, Deepa Bhasthi, won the International Booker Prize 2025 for Heart Lamp: a short story collection which explores the everyday lives of women and girls in Muslim communities in southern India.
