Winner of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature for ‘his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee’, it’s an honour to welcome Abdulrazak Gurnah to the Festival to discuss his latest novel, Theft. Writing on three experiences of young adulthood in 1990s Zanzibar, Gurnah brings us a coming-of-age tale that digs deep into the meaning of hope, change, and possibility in postcolonial East Africa. Chaired by Richard Sennett.
