The approach to both mental health and neurodivergence in clinical settings has changed enormously in the 30 years that Dr Sami Timimi has been a practicing psychiatrist. His view is that this has not necessarily led to improved outcomes, but to an overall pathologisation of human emotion and behaviour. His new book Searching for Normal explores his perspective on the influence of, and at times unintended harms created by, the pharmaceutical industry, media, and psychiatric establishment. As overall societal attitudes and approaches to mental health change, Dr Timimi gives his radical view on these challenging and vital topics 'from the field'. Chaired by Gavin Francis.
