Xiaolu Guo: A Whale of a Retelling

Writer, artist, and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo is critically acclaimed in every medium she touches. Her novel Call Me Ishmaelle is the most recent incarnation of her astonishingly varied vision and talent – a bold, playful, gender-swapping retelling of Moby Dick that reinvigorates Melville’s classic. She chats today about challenging conventions, our relationship to the natural world, and trying to fit the whole world on a whaling ship.
