Joe Dunthorne: The Other Side of the Story

Cult writer Joe Dunthorne has an eye and ear for life's absurdity; in Children of Radium, he's finely tuned to his own. Setting out to write about his difficult-to-impress Edinburgh grandmother's escape from the Nazis, he began his research by finally reading the unpublished 2,000-page memoir by his great-grandfather: inventor of radioactive toothpaste, WWII refugee, and, as Dunthorne found, much, much more. With humour and insight, Dunthorne talks to Andrew O'Hagan about a family memoir like no other.
