Peter Mackay: Meeting One’s Makar

In December 2024, Peter Mackay (Pàdraig MacAoidh) became our new Makar (the national poet of Scotland) – a monumental occasion, as he’s the first writer to be appointed who works primarily in Gaelic. At this unique event, we introduce this trailblazing poet, academic, and broadcaster, and discovers how a son of the Western Isles became the fifth incumbent in this totemic Scottish literary role.
