Should Rivers Be Afforded Personhood?

Around the world, a growing movement seeks to protect rivers by declaring them living beings entitled to fundamental rights. With her petition to grant legal personhood to the Clyde, novelist Louise Welsh brought this campaign to Scotland. She's joined by Robert Macfarlane, whose latest book is a passionate treatise supporting this idea, and Monica Feria-Tinta, the pioneering barrister at the forefront of the climate justice movement. This vital, perspective-shifting panel - a cornerstone of our Repair theme - is chaired by Guardian environmental editor, Jonathan Watts.
