The debate around freedom of expression feels more contested than ever. But the concept of freedom of expression in the arts is relatively recent, and it was only in 1968 that censorship of plays was abolished in Britain. Today's event takes a long and wide view of this fragile artistic right, and how it can be protected today. Panellists include influential sociologist and Chair of London Centre for the Humanities Richard Sennett; Labour politician and leading advocate for the creative industries Baroness Thangam Debbonaire; and distinguished poet and former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.
